The French King Charlemagne fell deeply in love with a beautiful German woman who later died. He grieved her so terribly that he kept her in his castle, and she remained lovely, as though she were only calmly sleeping. A local bishop grew concerned and snuck into her bedroom, whereupon he saw that she wore a ring on her hand. He stole the ring, and wore it himself, at which Charlemagne fell in love with him instead. Noticing the magic power of this ring, the bishop, wishing to deter Charlemagne, threw the gem into a nearby lake. Thence Charlemagne fell in love with the lake, building a new palace there, and a town, today known as Aix-la-Chapelle. The Charlemagne Ring represents eternal, binding love and is set with an Australian sapphire, and studded with black diamond. Pictured here in 14k solid yellow gold.
