For Nordic peoples the acorn is associated with the God Thor, whose domain is lightning. Therefore, during a thunderstorm, a single acorn may be placed on the window sill for good luck and to protect their houses from a lightning strike. Across cultures, this seed of the oak carries with it connotations of good fortune and fecundity. The Celts considered the acorn to the be representation of the union between masculine and feminine, thanks to its two different, but complementary parts.
