Kamala comes from the Hindi word for lotus, a flower with deep cultural significance in Asia. It mirrors the transformation of the consciousness from closed bud, to unfolded flower in its form. Handcrafted in Jaipur, the Kamala Ring is radiant with the life and vibrancy of northern India, a place of jangling bracelets, colourful turbans, and a whirl of local dialects. Set with thirty-one diamonds, the designs are not cast, but hand-etched into the 22-karat gold, then filled with hot enamel, poured by hand in what is known as the Pink City.
The lotus design is inspired by it's resonance in India, as a bloom that sits in water but is never wet, that flowers and vanishes, without attention to its surroundings. It symbolises the giving state of being in which one gives beauty to oneself and to the world, without attachment to the outcome. According to the Atharva Veda the lotus thus represents a person's spiritual heart, taking and receiving love in a reciprocal way but without expectations, just as the sun nourishes the bloom, and in turn the petals of the lotus open reverently to the life-giving star.
