In Ancient Greek legend, King Minos and the hero Theseus fought over whether or not the latter was really the son of Poseidon. Minos, in an effort to prove his point, threw his golden signet ring into the ocean, telling Theseus that if he were really the son of the sea God he would be able to retrieve it from the very bottom of the ocean floor. Theseus dove into the water, and was taken upon the backs of fish to the sea floor. There, the palace of Poseidon’s consort Amphitrite lay. She gave Theseus the signet ring, and a golden crown, studded with gems. The Theseus Ring is set here with Australian Parti sapphire, surrounded by blue sapphires and green tsavorite garnets. Pictured in 14k yellow gold.
